Assistant Professor/Physician Scientist 

The Division of Pediatric Hematology Oncology at the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and the Department of Pediatrics, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is recruiting a physician scientist at the rank of Assistant Professor on the tenure track.

The ideal candidate for this position would be a fellowship trained MD with experience related to laboratory/translational research focused on thrombo-inflammatory disease associated with hemolytic anemias such as sickle cell disease and platelet dysfunction. We are specifically seeking a physician scientist with expertise in analyzing both human specimens and animal model systems in order to advance our understanding and treatment of these coagulopathies.  The candidate would be expected to dedicate clinical effort to inpatient benign Hematology service and outpatient clinic effort focused on thrombosis/hemostasis and rare platelet disorders. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a successful track record of securing extramural funding, including an NIH career development award.

The Division of Pediatric Hematology Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh currently includes 24 faculty and a staff comprised of over 100 team members.  We operate both an inpatient hematology and an inpatient oncology service, a busy outpatient clinic located within the hospital, and several off-site clinics.  We see over 200 newly diagnosed oncology patients each year and in addition, we host a robust pediatric cancer survivorship clinic that cares for over 1000 patients. Our division faculty include multiple NIH-funded laboratory/ translational clinical scientists, with our research laboratories located in the state-of-the art Rangos Research Building directly attached to the Children’s Hospital.  Our medical school currently ranks #12 in NIH-sponsored research funding in the nation.

Named to the Top 10 Honor Roll on U.S. News & World report’s 2020-2021 list of “American’s Best Children’s Hospitals,” UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is a 315-bed free-standing children’s hospital located in the thriving Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
