Mentored Research Awards
The HTRS Mentored Research Awards provide trainees and junior faculty the financial support, mentoring, and protected research time to launch research careers in the blood sciences by:
• Supporting innovative research
• Pairing talented young physician-scientists with seasoned investigators
• Bridging the gap between mentored research and research independence
Jordan A. Shavit, MD, PhD (pictured left) received an HTRS Mentored Research Award in 2008 and is now a practicing pediatric hematologist at the University of Michigan, specializing in the care of children with diseases of the blood coagulation system. He is known internationally for his investigation of the genetics of von Willebrand Disease and human blood clotting disorders using animal models.
