Overview

The HTRS | Pfizer Visiting Professorship Program brings expert-led, customized education directly to institutions to address gaps in hemophilia care.

Selected institutions are paired with a Visiting Professor (or up to two, if appropriate) to deliver a tailored educational program focused on shared decision making (SDM), multidisciplinary care, and evolving treatment strategies. Programs are designed around each site’s unique needs to ensure meaningful, practical impact on clinical practice.

Funding & Program Structure

This flexible funding mechanism providing up to $6,000 per meeting can support a wide range of educational activities.

Whether you are planning a single-session event or a multi-day program, this initiative is designed to bring leading expertise directly to your institution.

HTRS will select one Visiting Professor(s) based on the recipient’s approved program and knowledge gaps. Travel expenses and honoraria for the Visiting Professor(s) will be covered separately and should not be a part of your grant application budget.

Example Educational Formats

Funding may be used to support programs such as:

Team-Based Clinical Education Sessions

For hematologists, advanced practice providers, nurses, social workers, physical therapists, and other HTC staff

Internal Research Symposia or Case-Based Conferences

Featuring in-depth presentations on SDM strategies and novel therapies

Regional HTC Educational Meetings

Bringing together providers and staff for updates on patient-centered care and evolving treatment landscapes

Grand Rounds or Visiting Lectureships

Focused on advancing shared decision making among physicians, trainees, and allied healthcare professionals

Medical School or Residency Curriculum Enhancements

Including hands-on workshops or expert-led seminars for early-career practitioners

Community Education Sessions

Incorporating patient and caregiver engagement to strengthen shared treatment planning

Patient Advocacy Group Programs

Designed in partnership with advocacy organizations to deliver education for patients, caregivers, and community leaders—focused on shared decision making, treatment awareness, and empowering individuals to actively participate in care decisions

Protocol Review or Quality Improvement Discussions

Supporting alignment of clinical practice with current evidence and patient-centered care models

2025 Program Examples

To support future applicants, below are examples of previously selected program topics and formats from the 2025 grant cycle:

Shared Decision Making & Emerging Therapies in Pediatric to Adult Transition

This program focused on improving transitions of care through shared decision making, with education on patient engagement strategies and emerging therapies including gene therapy, rebalancing agents, and bispecific antibodies. Participants called to develop practical tools to support transition workflows across multidisciplinary teams.

Training on Culturally Competent Shared Decision Making

This program addressed key barriers related to health literacy, cultural competency, and patient engagement. Sessions included motivational interviewing, communication strategies, and approaches to empower patients to actively participate in treatment decisions.

Women/Females with Bleeding Disorders + Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Training

A dual-focus program, requesting two visiting professors, designed to improve recognition and management of bleeding disorders in women and adolescent females, alongside hands-on training in musculoskeletal ultrasound. The program combined multidisciplinary education, case-based learning, and clinical application to support earlier diagnosis and improved patient outcomes.
