Dr. Lynn Malec Lecture Series to Premiere at the HTRS 2027 Scientific Symposium
MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Hemostasis & Thrombosis Research Society, Inc. (HTRS) announces the establishment of the Dr. Lynn Malec Lecture Series, which will premiere at the HTRS 2027 Scientific Symposium, March 11-13, 2027, in Philadelphia, PA. This new program honors the life and legacy of Dr. Lynn Malec, whose dedication to research and the clinical care of patients with bleeding disorders will have a lasting impact on her patients, colleagues, and fellow HTRS members.
The Dr. Lynn Malec Lecture Series will highlight leaders in hemostasis and thrombosis whose ongoing research is advancing science in the field. Through the series, HTRS aims to celebrate Dr. Malec’s legacy while furthering collaboration and scientific exchange among her fellow investigators.
Dr. Malec served as Treasurer of the HTRS Board of Directors for eight years, providing steady leadership and thoughtful guidance to the organization. She also served as Medical Director of the Versiti Comprehensive Center for Bleeding Disorders and Associate Investigator at the Versiti Blood Research Institute. Dr. Malec’s commitment to science, education, and patient care strengthened HTRS and helped further its mission within the hemostasis and thrombosis community.
Following her unexpected passing in February 2026, Lynn’s HTRS colleagues sought a meaningful way to honor her contributions and ongoing influence. Dr. Kellie Machlus said, “As Co-Chair of the HTRS 2027 Scientific Symposium, it is especially meaningful to recognize Dr. Malec’s impact on our field with this new program. The Dr. Lynn Malec Lecture Series will serve as an important session during our biennial HTRSsymposia, enabling members to reflect on Dr. Malec’s contributions while learning about ongoing research and clinical progress in our field.”
“The HTRS Scientific Symposium brings together leaders dedicated to advancing research and care in hemostasis and thrombosis,” said Dr. Michael White, Co-Chair of the HTRS 2027 Scientific Symposium. “Establishing The Dr. Lynn Malec Lecture Series ensures that Dr. Malec’s influence will continue to be felt within our community, highlighting the scientific excellence, commitment to patient care, and joyful collegiality that she championed for throughout her career.”
“Lynn was not only an extraordinary physician and scientist, but also a deeply compassionate colleague and friend,” said Dr. Shannon L. Meeks, Immediate Past President of HTRS and the first presenter for the new lecture series at the HTRS 2027 Scientific Symposium. “Her dedication to advancing research, mentoring the next generation of clinicians, and improving the lives of patients with bleeding disorders was truly remarkable. Having served with her on the HTRS Executive Committee, I witnessed firsthand her outstanding commitment to our community. I am honored to be part of the inaugural session of the Dr. Lynn Malec Lecture Series, where the spirit of collaboration, curiosity, and commitment that defined Lynn’s career and her impact on our field will be celebrated.”
