Meet the Future of Hematology

Meet Brittney Spruill — a 2024 SEARCH participant whose experience transformed her path in medicine.

Through the program, Brittney spent two days at the SEARCH 2024 Workshop learning from hematology experts and performing hands-on experiments in the lab. 

"My decision to join SEARCH came from a place of curiosity and courage. That leap opened doors I did not know existed. Through SEARCH, I discovered the transformative power of mentorship, gained direction in my career, and began building the confidence and community that continue to shape my journey today."

In 2025, Brittney found a mentorship with Bryce Kerlin, MD, of Nationwide Children's Hospital where the two collaborated on research in the lab. This opportunity also allowed Brittney to investigate thrombin’s role in progressive glomerular disease, as well as clinical shadowing in hematology, urology, and nephrology.

Then, Brittney returned as a SEARCH Ambassador to help answer attendees' questions and provide mentorship to fellow scientists.
