2 Reasons I Chose This Career
 1

As a senior resident in IM at University of Pennsylvania Medical School, we had to deliver grand rounds on a single topic.  I chose to present on cancer-associated venous thromboembolism, highlighting Agnes Lee’s CLOT trial.  Her work was so inspiring to me and launched my love of treating patients with venous thromboembolism.

As a first-year fellow, I was introduced to my long-time mentor and now friend, Brian Gage.  Brian has humbly and gracefully dedicated his career to safety of anticoagulant therapy through prediction of bleeding and pharmacogenomics in dosing.  He inspires me year after year in the work that he does, which has significantly advanced the field.

1 Thing I Learned
 1

If I left medicine today, someone else would see my patients, have similar research ideas, and lead.  Everything I do in medicine can be replaced by one of the many brilliant minds within our field.

No one can replace my role as a mom and the time I am able to spend with my children. No one can replace my role as a mother to fulfill the famous Proverb, "Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it." I try to remind myself of this every day as a I leave work with more unfinished work than when the day started.
